Rep. Congress can't travel to Gulf

The travel would appear to be to in the category of "general oversight" into an issue in which several committees have already been authorized for member visits to the Gulf Coast, said Kyle Anderson, spokesman for House Administration Committee Chairman Robert Brady, D-Pa. Such trips, Brady said, are "not eligible for payment from the financial accounts" that finance members' offices.

Brady's committee decides on whether to allow congressional funding of trips.

Scalise said he was surprised that the House administration panel would deny compensation for a trip designed to help members understand the issues related to the Gulf disaster, especially given that they soon will vote on spill-related legislation.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit said he had a one-on-one meeting with Obama, in which President Obama told him that he was still a Muslim, the son of a Muslim father, the stepson of Muslim stepfather, that his half brothers in Kenya are Muslims, and that he was sympathetic towards the Muslim agenda.

US to Join South Korea in Military exercise

The U.S. aircraft carrier USS George Washington will participate in a joint naval exercise with South Korea next week in the Yellow Sea, the same waters west of the Korean peninsula where North Korea is accused of sinking a South Korean warship last March, ABC News has learned.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton warns N. Korea to "halt provocative actions."

A U.S. official said the carrier, which operates from its home port in Japan, "will be sent to the waters off South Korea within coming days to participate in joint exercises" with the South Korean navy.

Slated to begin June 8, the official said this exercise will be "separate and distinct" from an upcoming anti-submarine warfare exercise that Pentagon officials had said recently would be occurring "in the near future."

An Idiot Calls An Idiot An Idiot!

I am not a fan of Bad Astronomer. I was but then I was getting more and more turned off of his mixing politics and Social Engineering with his Astronomy blog. I believe that Science is Science and why mix the blog up with your politics and beliefs? If a Science Magazine is your sponsor then blog about Science than Social issues! But I digress.

Anyway, I occasionally visit the site to see what obviously non-science junk he's shoveling for the day. Yesterday I found this. Mr. Bad Astronomer wants Glenn Beck to say he called him an "Idiot" rather than his employer, Discover Magazine. Granted it is right to get the quoter and quote correct. But Mr. Bad is an egomaniac. And Beck can be a bit too much for me. But Beck is a Patriot and Mr. Bad is just EGO. Read his blog and you tell me. Nice pictures but sometimes goes off on a liberal tangent. BAD!

Prop. 8 was for the Children too!

I believe firmly in keeping Traditional Marriage the way it is for raising children. I'm sorry about those who support Gay Marriage. They just don't get it. From the Prop. 8 Protect Marriage here:

Perhaps the most critical feature of traditional marriage is the impact the institution has on the creation and raising of children. Simple biology proves that relationships only between a man and woman can result in the creation of a child. It just can’t happen between two men or two women. Further, experts around the globe agree that the ideal family structure for a child is a family headed by two biological parents in a low-conflict marriage. Logically, it only makes sense that society would want to encourage marriage between a child’s biological mother and father, and that is exactly what California (and virtually every other state) has always done. But more than logic supports the public policy adopted by the voters when they enacted Proposition 8.

The contention that there is no discernable difference in the impact on the cognitive, emotional and social well-being of a child between opposite-sex married couples and homosexual couples just isn’t borne out by social science. It is at the core of why Prop 8 was placed on the ballot and why more than seven million Californians supported it.

“Republicans will win the Senate with 52 or 53 seats,” Morris said without hesitation, “and the House will go Republican by 10 to 20 seats.”

The former Clinton strategist-turned-Republican pointed out that it will take a minimum of 39 seats to change from Democrat to Republican for the GOP to win a majority. Seven of those 39, he predicted, “will come from right here in Pennsylvania—the epicenter of change.”

Beginning with a Republican pick-up of the Western Pennsylvania seat of the late Democratic Rep. John Murtha in the special election May 18, Morris said that the GOP’s gains in the Keystone State would come from unseating Democratic Representatives Kathy Dahlkemper, Jason Altmire, Patrick Murphy, Christopher Carney, and Paul Kanjorski. (Although that ads up to only six, others at the dinner told me Morris came to his figure of a gain of seven by automatically factoring in the likely pickup by GOPer Pat Meehan of the Delaware County district vacated by Senate hopeful Joe Sestak).

As to the claims of Altmire (who voted twice against the Obama-backed healthcare bill) that he is a “moderate Democrat,” Morris recalled his days as a “moderate Democrat” in the 1990’s working with Bill Clinton on issues such as “tough love” welfare reform and cutting the capital gains tax.

“Today, the moderate Democrat is as extinct as a do-do,” declared Morris, “I am extinct.” He said that in the Democratic Party of today, “you are either an Obama-Reid-Pelosi Democrat or you are a Republican. I am a Republican.” Morris also quoted Ronald Reagan that “I didn’t leave the Democratic Party, the Democratic Party left me.”
