Mookie got his butt kicked

Here at The Long War Journal.
Sadr’s call for an end to fighting by his followers comes as his Mahdi Army has taken high casualties over the past six days. Since the fighting began on Tuesday, 358 Mahdi Army fighters were killed, 531 were wounded, 343 were captured, and 30 surrendered. The US and Iraqi security forces have killed 125 Mahdi Army fighters in Baghdad alone, while Iraqi security forces have killed 140 Mahdi fighters in Basrah.

Move over Hillary, It was Pat Nixon

Such a flap over "war zone" first ladies. The first war zone First Lady was Pat Nixon, not Hillary Clinton (i.e. since Eleanor Roosevelt). Duh!

From the National First Ladies' Library here.

Joining the President in his 1969 trip to South Vietnam, she became the first First Lady to visit a combat zone, flying just 18 miles from Saigon in an open helicopter and accompanied by Secret Service agents draped with bandoleers.

HT From Real Nixon here:
“For Mrs. Clinton to say she was the first First Lady taken into a war zone since Eleanor Roosevelt is absolutely untrue,” says Colonel Gene Boyer, who flew Mrs. Nixon in Vietnam as she visited the palace, an orphanage, a military evacuation hospital, and combat troops.

“We flew more than 1,500 feet above the ground in case of enemy fire,” Boyer says, “with fighter jets above and scores of helos flying under and around us for maximum protection. We even put down bullet proof mats on the helo floor.

“The Secret Service was against the trip,” Boyer says, “because the entire country was a war zone.”

Vets for Freedom tour turned down at High School

A national tour featuring decorated veterans from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan won't be stopping at Forest Lake Area High School today as planned, after school leaders abruptly canceled the visit.

Steve Massey, the school principal, said the decision to cancel was prompted by concerns that the event was becoming political rather than educational and therefore was not suitable for a public school.

He said the school had received several phone calls from parents and others, some of whom indicated that they may stage a protest if the event took place.

Let the parents protest. The Vets for Freedom tour is telling the story of Veterans who served Iraq and Afghanistan. No politics at all. I think the parents fear their children will hear the vets talk and will want to join the military.

The Typical White Person

I'm really offended by Obama's comments about "White People." Why can't we just be "Americans" without color mentioned? Come on man, you just put your campaign in the gutter just like the rest of the Dems.
From Instapundit here.
The quote from Obama's interview is here via Powerline.
We "Typicals" are watching you Obama via our White DNA. LOL!

Victory at all costs

You ask, What is our policy? I will say; "It is to wage war, by sea, land and air, with all our might and with all the strength that God can give us: to wage war against a monstrous tyranny, never surpassed in the dark lamentable catalogue of human crime. That is our policy." You ask, What is our aim? I can answer with one word: Victory - victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory however long and hard the road may be; for without victory there is no survival.

Palm Sunday

The Navy Family went to the Richard M. Nixon Library to celebrate the Girl Scout birthday and Pat Nixon's Birthday. It is No# 96. We invited the Navy Grandparents and they enjoyed it.

Four years ago we lost Casey Sheehan as Black Five reminds us here.

"Americans love a winner," Patton growled, "and will not tolerate a loser. Americans despise cowards. Americans play to win - all the time. I wouldn't give a hoot in hell for a man who lost and laughed. . . . The very thought of losing is hateful to an American." Let's hope this bodes well for John McCain in 2008.

And he is in Iraq on this Palm Sunday.

The reason for McCain

I heard this new McCain ad this morning on Bill Bennet's show and I saw it on Black Five this afternoon.

I'm so moved. I think it will impress many. And inspire young people to learn more about our history. (I hope so!)

A Wiki for ships

Here is gCaptian, a wiki for naval ships:
The new gCaptain wiki will offer a place for mate’s to share voyage plans, engineers to share drawing and everyone to share facts, photos and information about their favorite ships . First on the agenda is a dedicated TWIC page for U.S. mariners.

They are looking for an administer for the site here.

Admiral Fallon to step down

From LGF here.

And from Black Five here.

MSNBC here about the Esquire Magazine article:

The Pentagon sharks are circling CENTCOM Commander Adm. William "Fox" Fallon for a magazine interview in which he appears to openly criticize President Bush on the administration's Iran policy. The very public comments raised speculation Fallon would either volunteer or be forced to resign.

The current issue of Esquire Magazine portrays Fallon as the one person in the military or Pentagon standing between the White House and war with Iran. The article credits Fallon with "brazenly challenging his commander in chief" over a possible war with Iran, which Fallon called an "ill-advised action," and implies Fallon would resign rather than go to war against Iran.

Asked on Monday whether Defense Secretary Robert Gates still has full confidence in Fallon, Pentagon Press Secretary Geoff Morrell would only say that Fallon "still enjoys a working – a good working relationship with the Secretary of Defense."

Although reporters did not specifically ask about a possible Fallon resignation, Morrell freely offered, "Admiral Fallon serves at the pleasure of the president." That’s not exactly a ringing endorsement, but far from a political death knell.

Looks like it rung true today.

Adam Gadahn dead?

From Bill Roggio Long War Journal:
But signs of Gadahn's absence have been seen with the latest release of the Yazid video, said Grace. Files were not properly uploaded in the correct sequence. "Since taking the reins of as-Sahab, Gadahn instituted standards and practices that have been closely followed over the past year," Grace noted. "This is the first technical mistake that I have seen them make since the events back in September 2007," when the Osama bin Laden videotape was improperly handled.

Pakistani jihadis have told NBC News that Gadahn and his travel party have been unheard of since the Jan. 29 airstrike. "All our friends are worried about him but so far we could not make any contact with him," a jihadi told NBC News. "We had sent two of our friends to Mir Ali to locate him and provide us with details about him." The same sources said Gadahn was to attend the high-level meeting where al Libi was killed.

The OC Goat boy is dead? There's evidence he is no longer around. Or He could be wounded and hiding out in a cave.
